THE LAND OF A THOUSAND HANDSHAKES
Bario is an area with a collection of indigneous Kelabit longhouses located in the centre of the Kelabit Highlands in the northeast of Sarawak, Malaysia, very close to the international border with Indonesian Kalimantan. Situated at the eastern edge of the Taman Negara Pulong Tau national park, Bario sits approximately 1200 m (3937ft) above sea level. It is the main settlement for the indigenous Kelabit tribe in what is known locally as the Kelabit Highlands. There are regular flights between Bario Airport and Ba’kelalan, Marudi and Miri.
